Blueberries on bush
Blueberries hang on a bush in Pamlico County. Notice the short branching of the shrub, which is not ideal, and the various colored berries that show the different stages of ripeness. Photo by Amanda Wilkins

N.C. Cooperative Extension - Lee County Center is excited to partner with local homeowner Helen Spitler, who has inherited a large, 50-year-old blueberry patch, to host a Blueberry Pruning and Care Workshop in January 2023. The class will include an overview of blueberry care, a guide to restoration and maintenance pruning, and an opportunity to practice your newly-learned skills on the blueberry bushes there with expert guidance. The fee for attendance is $15 a person.

This will be hands-on, so wear sturdy clothes and feel free to bring your own pruning tools.

If the weather is not ideal, we will make a rain date based on registrants!

ADDRESS  WILL BE SHARED WITH REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS ONLY

We are offering two dates for you to attend:
  • Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the class will be led by Amanda Wilkins, the horticulture agent in Lee County.
  • Sunday, February 4, 2024, 2 to 4 p.m., and the class will be led by Amanda Wilkins, the horticulture agent in Lee County.
Registration and prepayment is required by Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 12 p.m. for the Thursday class, and by Friday, February 2, 2024 at 12 p.m.
