Who We Are
The Lee County Area Farmers Association is a non-profit organization for farmers to share information, enjoy fellowship, and stay up to date on current research-based agricultural practices.
Originally started in the mid-1970s as the Lee County Young Farmers, the group officially modified their name in the mid-’90s to its current title to reflect the increased interest and membership of farmers from surrounding counties (and many of the farmers weren’t quite so “young” anymore!).
What We Are About
Each year in January and February, the group hosts a series of five to six educational meetings at 6:30 pm in Sanford addressing relevant topics for the modern producer. University specialists, area agronomists, and chemical and seed company representatives are frequent speakers at the meetings, providing agronomic, regulatory and market updates each week.
The Area Farmers Association hosts a family night each year in March, highlighted by a buffet dinner and live and silent auctions. Family night also includes the presentation of annual scholarships to the sons and daughters of members that are pursuing advanced degrees. Since 2005, over $44,000 have been awarded in funding for higher education for these young folks.
Join Us!
The group is currently accepting new members and dues are a bargain at only $30 per year, which includes your meal at each meeting. The group is always looking for local sponsors, so if you or your business has an interest in sponsoring a meeting and sharing information about your product or company, please see the sponsorship form below.
