Get ready for community science in action! Learn how to participate in this regional project, identify key pollinator groups, and help us count the bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects utilizing our Garden. - Friday, September 4 — Late-Season Nectar & Pollen Plants
Discover the hardworking native perennials and shrubs that keep late-season pollinators fueled as migrating species head south and resident insects prepare for winter. - Friday, October 2 — Fall Planting for Success
Fall is the absolute best time to plant native perennials! Learn soil preparation techniques, optimal plant placement, and winter root-establishment tips for a thriving spring garden. - Friday, November 6 — Putting the Garden to Bed (Ecologically!)
Tidy up without destroying vital habitats. Explore "leaving the leaves," managing standing seed heads, and preparing your landscape for winter while sheltering overwintering beneficial insects.

Curious about what’s blooming and buzzing in Lee County? Join the Lee County Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers on the First Friday of the month for our seasonal guided tour series!
Whether you're looking for native plant recommendations, seasonal gardening advice, or simply a refreshing walk through our living classroom, these guided tours offer a front-row seat to the seasonal rhythms of our local ecosystem.
Cost: $5 per person (Includes a complimentary native pollinator plant or seed packet to take home!) Children under 18 years-old FREE!
What to Expect on Our Tours
- Expert Leadership: Guided walk led by a knowledgeable Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer or Horticulture Agent.
- Interactive Q&A: Plenty of time to ask questions about plant care, pest management, and native species.
- Welcoming Atmosphere: A relaxed, fun environment tailored for beginner gardeners and plant enthusiasts alike.
- Accessible Walk: A low-energy, flat-surface walk with no steep slopes or long distances. Shade stations are provided on warm days.
- Plant Takeaway: Every paid registration includes a free native pollinator plant or seed packet to start your own garden plot!
Tour Details
- Location: Pollinator Haven Garden at the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Lee County Center (2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, NC 27332)
- Meeting Point: Please pull around to the back of the building by turning right at the front of the building and meet us by the Garden Shed by 9:55 a.m.
- Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
- Cost: $5 per person (Cash or check payable to "NCCE-Lee County" accepted for walk-ups).
- Weather Policy: Tours run light rain or shine. In the case of severe weather or lightning, registered guests will be notified of cancellation via email by 8:30 a.m. the morning of the tour. If in doubt, please call our office.
