We are experimenting with planting plugs of native plants in unprepared ground among weeds and grass. Most experts recommend using herbicide or digging up original vegetation before planting, but we’re trying it out the hard way. We burn some of the weeds away using our flame weeder though!

The native soil is about a 6.6 pH (as of a September 2022 soil test), which is higher than it usually is around here. Hmm!
