Webinar: NC Participates in the Great Southeastern Pollinator Census

(Updated: May 24, 2025, 7:24 a.m.)
We are very excited to share a new community science program for North Carolinians: the Great Southeast Pollinator Census. It was started by Dr. Becky Griffin at UGA Extension in 2019 and it has expanded across Georgia, into South Carolina and now to North Carolina! Unlike iNaturalist or Bumble Bee Watch or Monarch Watch, this is a one-time contribution-type program, where community scientists of all ages and types observe pollinators once during a two-day sampling period. This narrow, structured window allows scientists to see a concentrated snapshot in time across a wide geographic area and makes it easy for ANYONE to participate.
Mark your calendars for June 7 for our NC-wide webinar about how you, your Master Gardeners (if you have them), and your community partners can participate in the 2023 Great Southeast Pollinator Census! Registration is required but is open to anyone in NC!

When: Wednesday, June 7, 2023
Time: 1:30-3 p.m.

Where: Zoom (link to be sent out day before!)

Who: ANYONE in North Carolina! Community members, Extension Master Gardeners, schools, teachers, students, parents, homeschool groups, businesses, non-profits, government organizations, etc.

Contact: Amanda Wilkins- amwilkin@ncsu.edu

Date of the Census for 2023: Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19

Join the Great Southeastern Pollinator Census team to learn about the Census, how to participate in the Census, how to bring the Census to your community or organizations, and ask questions with the experts. If you want to help scientists understand what kind of insects are in your backyard, this is the project for you!
