N.C. Cooperative Extension has partnered with Lee County Libraries to offer a network of seed libraries across Lee County. Collaboration is Prosperation coordinated the first seed locker installation at the Main Library Branch on Hawkins Avenue in 2021, and assisted in getting additional lockers at the Broadway Branch (February 2024) and the Benhaven Library (in Harnett County, December 2024).

The purpose of this service to offer seeds to Lee County residents for free for the purpose of home food production; and foster a sense of community by facilitating the sharing of knowledge and saved seeds. These seeds create and preserve Lee County-originated and regionally-relevant strains of vegetables and fruits for future generations.

Share in Your Bounty- How to Donate Seeds

Gardeners are also encouraged to save their own seeds from their prized vegetables and share them through the Seed Library. You can drop your seed packets off at the Library desk or at the Extension Office (2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, NC 27332), and we will put them into circulation.
