Bitter Sneezeweed (Helenium amarum) is a warm season annual that has a small yellow flower with narrow leaves. It is also in the same family as Sunflowers. It can grow up to 20 inches tall and has a taproot. Bitter Sneezeweed is toxic to livestock and should be managed appropriately. 2,4-D and Grazon provide good control in pastures and should be applied when the weed is less than two inches tall and actively growing. When applying a pesticide make sure you read the label and wear the PPE it requires you to wear. If you have any questions or need help identifying a weed that is in your pasture call North Carolina Cooperative Extension- Lee County Center at 919-775-5624.
