Participant’s Commitment

I understand the purpose of the “Lee County Young Commissioners” Youth Leadership program. If I am selected, I will devote my time and resources to completing the orientation. Even though emergencies may arise, if I miss more than one session, I understand that I will be withdrawn from the program. After the orientation, I will continue in the club for a minimum of 12 months attending monthly meetings and helping with other activities. In signing this application, I understand and accept these commitments and agree to honor them.

Young Commissioners 4-H Club helps youth to learn and practice life skills that will help them in their future whether it be applying for college or applying for a job. It teaches them networking and introduces them to local business people who become contacts for their futures.

Public Speaking: Young Commissioners learn about value of public speaking. They will have numerous opportunities to hone their speaking skills through training and by activities and by giving presentations in front of their peers and mentors.

Team Work:  Young Commissioners will learn the importance of teamwork through group challenges where they will have to work together to achieve a
common goal.

Leadership Building:  While learning the importance of being a team player, Young Commissioners will also develop their personal leadership skills and an understanding of their own leadership style and what makes an effective leader.

Confidence Building:  A main focus of the program is to help build the confidence of participants through leadership training and encouraging them to reach their potential as individuals.

Career Skills: The program highlights application, resume and interview skills along with business etiquette; giving participants the tools they need to be successful in the workplace.

Young Commissioners is an organization that goes out into the community. Not only doing community service projects but also learning about our city and how it works.

State/Local Government: Young Commissioners will learn about the different systems and processes of city, county, and state governments by meeting government officials, and attending government meetings. The youth will learn how to properly conduct a business meeting increase their understanding of the role local government plays in their lives.

Law Enforcement: Young Commissioners will also have the opportunity to learn about local law enforcement and how it works together with the government by visiting the County courthouse and touring the jail. The new recruits learn about the duties of the Sheriff’s department as well as the role of the judicial system.

SAGA: Young Commissioners also meet with people from our local Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development and learn what Sanford has to offer new businesses that are looking to relocate to our area. They hear about plans on how Sanford plans to grow and all the opportunities it holds.

Club Goals: Work on leadership, soft skills, and become better citizens of Sanford and Lee County

For 2019, Lee County Young Commissioners 4-H Club leadership wants to push Young Commissioners to aim for either Bronze, Silver, or Gold in the 4H Achieve Plan. The purpose of an Achieve Plan is to make a life skill plan and follow through. Please choose the level that you would like to achieve, and begin planning for the activities/events required for your level. With the link below, print out your Achieve Plan Form, and set deadlines to complete the activities/events. Decide the dates you want to complete the Required Activities by and put that date in the Planned Column. Then choose which Optional Activities you want to complete and put the dates you will have them completed by in the Planned Column. You will need to make two copies of your plan. One will be your copy and the other would be for you to turn in to Ms. Cindy.
