The N.C. Cooperative Extension Office – Lee County Center Staff is out there serving the Lee County community every day! Lots of planning and lots of gardening this week in Lee County!

Pam Kerley - This week I watched the 4-H Flavor Fighters win first place in the Dinah Gore Cooking Challenge hosted by the It’s Got to be NC Festival. I attended the 4-H Theater Club’s performances of “Arctic Mystery,” “Stone Soup,” and “Rainbow Land.” This is the final activity for this club until fall. I also had fun with the Lee County Library & 4-H STEAM club. The members learned about energy and made paper spring cars from recycled materials. AND I was able to spend time with some wonderful volunteers at a district association meeting.

Meredith Favre was busy this week with farmers’ market planning, as she is part of the Sanford Farmers’ Market board which met this week to make plans for the month of June at the market. She also helped clients over the phone and through site visits and went to Sanford Child Care and Education Station with Amanda and Ashley to teach children about how farmers’ grow strawberries! 

It was a strong Farm to Early Childhood and Education week! We got funding underway for new garden beds, plants, and supplies for all of our daycare partners. Amanda finished up a three-week long series about Gardening for daycare directors across the state. Jared, Meredith and Amanda were at Education Station on Thursday to assemble planters with students, teachers and parents at Education Station too! We added about 30 plants, including perennials, herbs and vegetables to their containers!

We also had visitors to the County! Matt Jones and two Extension Master Gardeners of Chatham County came to check out the Pollinator Haven Garden and the signage we use in the garden areas. Then on Wednesday we had folks from the State come down for a county staff listening session during our bi-weekly staff meeting.
