Check it out in our weekly update slideshow on Facebook.

Jared Butler and Steve McNeill in the field
Jared Butler, field crops and livestock agent, and Steve McNeill, farmer in one of Steve's pick-your-own strawberry fields

Pam: I attended Juntos 4-H Club’s year end celebration. Ashley and I held 2 of the 6 final practices for the Dinah Gore 4-H Healthy Cooking Competition that will be held during the It’s Got to be NC Festival.

Amanda: For a short week, it has been jam-packed! Strawberry season has been long and mostly successful, so she and Jared have been doing some site visits to check in with our producers on the eve of Strawberry Jammin’ in Sanford! The NC Pollinator Conservation Alliance had their semi-annual Zoom check-in and it was fun to see everyone, and tell everyone about the upcoming Great Southeastern Pollinator Census. It was the week of our May Garden Life Lunch and Learn and we learned about basic vegetable production. The class helped us pick peas afterward. Lee County is a leader in the state Farm to Early Childhood and Education program, and I was honored to present to the state to talk about how to start a garden. It is the first of a three-part series. Our Extension Master Gardeners got together on Friday to take a social trip down to Southern Pines to enjoy some display garden. What fun!

Meredith: It is STRAWBERRY JAMMIN’! The Market is in full swing! When she’s not “market”ing, we were planning the upcoming Insect Institute program and she was in the field doing site visits and getting video footage!

Bill and Jared had a great time chatting with the “Leadership Sanford” group Thursday about N.C. Cooperative Extension and agriculture in Lee County!
