Update From the Field/Office- June 30, 2023

(Updated: June 30, 2023, 6:07 p.m.)

It was a hot one in Sanford this week, but we had a great time with double 4-H Camps at N.C. Cooperative Extension- Lee County Center: Quilting Camp and Horticulture Camp. The kids completed quilts on one side of the hall and learned about plants and insects on the other side!

Pam - I have had a ball watching the volunteers and agents work with 4-H’ers this week during horticulture camp and quilting camp!

Jared- It's been a hot week to finish off the month of June with some valuable heat unit accumulation in crops. Be on the lookout for an article on pond weeds in our monthly newsletter!

Bill- Had a great week as we continue to move forward with plans for the Sanford Agricultural Marketplace. Big shout out to the City of Sanford for helping make this project a reality to kickoff the East Sanford Downtown revitalization!

Meredith- Meredith was out in the field this week with volunteers gleaning blueberries to donate to CUOC. They collected 40 pounds on Monday! She also led the Insect Day for 4-H Hort camp, where kids learned how to identify different types of insects, how to use microscopes and collect field data, and craft cool insect masks! Last but not least, she was getting ready for the Sanford Farmers' Market this weekend, and this Saturday kicks off the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers being accepted at the market! She is also getting ready to start Tuesday morning markets at the Enrichment Center starting July 11th.

Amanda- It has been a fun week with the 4-H Horticulture Camp. Each day was different and the kids asked such excellent questions. Thanks go out to Extension Master Gardener Tracie Bowers for all of her hard work during the week. In between all of the camp I caught up with client calls and emails.

Ashley- The 4-H Horticulture Campers did a great job on Farm to Fork Day cooking vegetable pizzas made from produce from White Hill!
