Description: 1/24/23 Ashley has a treat for you tonight. See everyone at 6:00.

1/17/23 - After tonight, we will be halfway there! Looking forward to the meeting. Please don't let the rain keep you away. We have a fun meeting planned.

1/11/23 - I am feeling very positive about your cupid creating a meal for you on or around Valentine's day. Last night's meeting was very fun and the veggie enchiladas tasted very good. The recipe and handouts are in the folder they will take home on the last day but if you want the recipe beforehand, please let me know. I was happy to hear a few members tried out the salsa from the first meeting at home last week. If you have or get any feedback from the meeting, I would love to hear it. Last night they learned names for particular veggie cuts and learned how to control a potato! You should never have to cut potatoes again because your cupid has it figured out. Ask them for the trick to hold a cutting board in place if it isn't skid resistant. The extra time was invaluable, thanks for giving us that grace. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 17th, 6:00-8:00. Please make sure you are enrolled in 4HO by then. Thanks!

1/4/23 - Ashley and I enjoyed getting to know your chefs. We apologize for keeping them late. It is essential to review the kitchen safety rules and guidelines before we begin; this took longer than expected last night. One of the guidelines taught us to take our time in the kitchen. Once we started working with the knives, it would have gone against guidance to rush them. We want to extend the club meeting by 30 more minutes to keep you from waiting after class next week. Please respond with your thoughts for and against this and also share if any of your kids discussed safety in the kitchen with you or a family member after the meeting.

Last night the group made salsa. An easy recipe to observe knife skills and begin practice. They will continue to use these skills in the following meetings. If they work at home, encourage them to curl their fingers (of the hand holding the produce) away from the blade and grasp the knife securely with their thumb and forefinger. It feels uncomfortable at first, but with practice will become second nature and is the safest way to use knives.

The salsa recipe is an easy way to start discussing making food "to taste," but we ran out of time for the post-recipe discussion. We want to talk about what worked and how they might improve, and we will do that at the start of next week's meeting. If you received any feedback, we would love to hear it.

We have started a folder that will hold all the recipes tested throughout the program, and they will take that home at the end. Let me know if you would like a recipe copy before the end.

We are on our way toward that Valentine's dinner. See you next Tuesday at 6:00. You should have been invited to a Google event to remind you of the meetings.

1/2/23 - We are looking forward to our first meeting today at 6:00. Please do NOT wear loose-fitting clothing and DO wear close-toed shoes AND have long hair pulled back. If you were not enrolled in 4HO in 2022, complete and bring the attached paperwork to the first meeting.
