This Friday we would like to Spotlight one of Stokes County’s Farmers Market: Stokes Future Farmers Market!

Held at Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, Stokes Future Farmers Market returns for its tenth year this summer. Former Stokes County Commissioner, Ronda Jones, founded the market in 2011, and it has gone on to serve as a model for other state park farmers markets around North Carolina. The market offers locally produced fruits, vegetables, meat, baked goods, and artisan crafts every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, May through October. The mission of  Stokes Future Farmers Market is to help feed our own, employ our own, and prosper.

Robin Riddlebarger says “the farmer’s market at HARO (Hanging Rock State Park) is unique and is frequently mentioned in parks circles as an example of great partnerships and opportunities in parks (I just love being number 1!!). Parks are trying harder to provide more opportunities for different types of visitors. Shopping is something we as a system have just discovered that visitors like. They want to take home something from their visit. Plus I just think the products our vendors sell: fresh food, healthy food, and handmade items by local people fit in with our mission perfectly”.

Ronda Jones adds, “a lot of visitors compliment the market. They are pleasantly surprised to find the market when they get here. A great partnership is when both parties benefit. Several customers remark they hope our vendors are benefiting financially, so with comments like this we know our customers are benefiting too. I really think encounters like this add to our visitors’ whole park experience.”

Kitty Ray Brown is the Market Manager and encourages people to visit Stokes Future Inc or visit the market’s Facebook page for more information.
