As the need for outdoor exploring grows more and more, don’t forget to protect your skin with sunscreen. However, it is still important for you to take a moment to explore your backyard or local parks through hands-on activities like Beyond the Backyard, a virtual Summer Fun camp offered by Union County 4-H.

Sunlight produces a great amount of Vitamin D to help build calcium for our bodies and improve overall heart health. While you are out exploring the outdoors, remember to practice basic outdoor safety skills like seeking shade (when available), cover-up, wear a hat and/or sunglasses, and wear sunscreen. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the best sunscreen level is at least SPF 15 and UVB (broad spectrum) protection for children when they are outside.

To learn more about the Beyond the Backyard camp, contact the local 4-H office at 704.283.3735 or 704.283.3740.
