Earth Day 2020Earth Day is an annual event that is celebrated on April 22 each year to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, with the goal of raising awareness about mankind’s role in protecting our natural world. On this date, 20 million Americans ventured outdoors and demonstrated in favor of a more eco-conscious society

This year will be the 50-year celebration and even though we are practicing social distancing we can still celebrate. Each year Earth Day gets a new theme. This year the theme is “climate action”.

You may be wondering how you can celebrate Earth Day while you are at home with your family. Here are some simple things you can do: clean up litter, plant a tree, plant a garden, simply reflect on the beauty of the outdoors, or plant some flowers.

A unique way to plant some flowers in a wooded area are “seed bombs”. Seed bombs are a mixture of clay, soil, and seeds. Take a look at this video of my son and me making seed bombs that you can enjoy. We used simple modeling clay, potting soil, and wildflower seeds. Our plan is to make these seed bombs and throw them in the woods near our house. This will help with the beautification of our earth, while also helping give a source of nectar to butterflies and bees that are out looking for food. I hope you enjoy our video and make your own seed bombs to celebrate earth day.
