Confident public speaking is a crucial, but often overlooked and underdeveloped skill. Developing effective communication skills and techniques provide youth with a positive sense of self and higher levels of self-confidence. This will empower them to achieve and succeed in any situation they encounter.

4-H Public Speaking

The ability to speak confidently and credibly in a public setting is a necessary skill for everyone no matter their career aspirations. Good public speakers are made – not born, and the 4-H Public Speaking program allows youth to develop and practice these essential skills in a positive and fun learning environment. For this program, youth ages 8-18 research write, practice, and deliver a 5-12 minute presentation on a topic of their choice. Youth ages 5-7 can also participate by presenting a two-to-four-minute presentation on the subject of their choice.

On April 5th stop by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center at 120 Community Way, Barco, NC between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. to have some ice cream and learn more program details, topic categories, presentation tips, and techniques. Participating youth will have the opportunity to present at the 4-H Northeast District Activity Day in Wake County on June 22, 2019. In order to ensure adequate supplies are on hand please RSVP.

For more information or accommodations for persons with disabilities please contact the 4-H Staff at 252-232-2262, or email slfischl@ncsu.edu no later than five business days before the event.
